Electric Pickups

Electric pickups are electronic devices used in guitars, basses, and other stringed instruments to convert the vibration of the strings into an electrical signal. This conversion is achieved through the principle of electromagnetic induction, where a magnetic field is created by magnets within the pickup. When the strings, which are typically made of metal, vibrate within this magnetic field, they induce an electric current in the pickup's coil. There are various types of electric pickups, including single-coil and humbucker, each providing distinct tonal characteristics. Electric pickups are essential for amplifying the sound of electric instruments, enabling them to be heard at higher volumes and processed through effects and amplifiers. Their design and placement on the instrument can greatly influence the overall sound, making them a critical component in electric guitar and bass design.
