Automotive Recall

An automotive recall is a process initiated by a vehicle manufacturer or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) when a safety-related defect or noncompliance with federal safety standards is identified in a vehicle, tire, equipment, or motorcycle. During a recall, the manufacturer is required to notify the affected vehicle owners, dealers, and retailers about the defect. The manufacturer typically offers a remedy, which may include repairing the defect, replacing the vehicle or part, or providing a refund. The goal of an automotive recall is to ensure the safety of the vehicle occupants and the general public by addressing potential hazards associated with the recalled product. Recalls can be voluntary (initiated by the manufacturer) or mandatory (ordered by regulatory agencies). The information about ongoing recalls is often made available to the public, and vehicle owners can check their VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) to see if their vehicle is subject to a recall.
